Building a Business from Scratch: The Story of Paul Clark Services

Paul Clark Services (PCS) has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1997 when founder, Paul Clark, decided to enter the world of contracting and began as a sole trader under the name ‘Paul Clark Services’ Flying Fitter Service. Starting with just one person, Paul quickly realized that this kind of work was very demanding and more than one person could handle alone. He then persuaded Michael Kerslake to leave Thamesdown and join him as an equal partner in PCS to help grow the business.

Utilizing their limited contacts, they faced challenges, but through hard work and recommendations, things began to take off. In 2002, Paul and Michael made the decision to take the business on and incorporate it as a limited company, and as time progressed, their reputation began to grow as well as the paperwork which they needed to keep the business going.

Their aim of being the go-to for Engineering Support was starting to take shape, and Paul and Michael made the decision to focus more on the office side of the business and come away from being on the tools.

In 2010, PCS acquired their first premises, and with that addition, they began growing their numbers once again, expanding their management team and efficiency of their office staff to get them where they are today. In 2013, they moved premises again, this time being able to obtain their workshop facility where they have been ever since and have been able to thrive with bringing work into the business from nearby customers and their contacts in the Bus and Coach network.

By doing this, it allowed their management team to grow again, and with that, they were able to manage key customers better around the country. Between 2019 and 2020, they became accredited by the IMI, enabling them to undertake IRTEC Inspection status and invest in high voltage training, allowing PCS to evolve with the times where necessary.

Although 2020 presented some very challenging times during the outbreak of covid-19, PCS was able to come through the other side and recoup lost revenue and support taking them back to the numbers they had previously experienced before the pandemic took place.

For over two decades, Paul Clark Services has strived to be the go-to company for support in the Road Transport Industry, and their standards have not changed since Paul and Michael began this journey. They are grateful to their customers and team members who have contributed to their success.
